Project Lead The Way

Springfield Elementary is STEM school. We were recently awarded the PLTW(Project Lead The Way) grant with connections to USC and Boeing. The program for kindergarten through fifth grade will help students become problem solvers. Students will use structured approaches, like the engineering design process, and employ critical thinking skills. They will apply STEM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind, learning that it is okay to take risks and make mistakes. PLTW Launch curriculum includes 24 modules aligned to grade-level standards. The 10-hour modules are presented in pairs that combine to create a thematic unit. Teachers will experience flexible ongoing instructional support and a connection to an ongoing professional community. Through the integration of a STEM program, Problem-Based Learning approach, and rigorous standards, our students will be able to apply a high depth of knowledge.
